Chaos Magic

As it pertains to writing.
My goal with any written work is to tell a story. At times some philosophical concepts may slide into the outline or major plot arcs, but typically my stories revolve around the characters within them. I didn’t go to school with writing in mind, but my hobbies have always placed a focus on character development and adventure through a world of fiction where my friends and I could escape from the ordinary. I draw heavily from the entities that live in my books, heeding their whims and writing in whatever manner best reflects my understanding of their thoughts and emotions. As such, I often find the organic growth of my works mutates and creeps off the neatly laid plotline rails previously engineered.
I would like to be evocative and impactful with my word choice as a narrator, even if the characters within a story aren’t dramatic by nature. Perhaps I achieve this ambition at times, but more often I must conjure world development and play counterpoint to the characters with chaos and misfortune, rather than subtly gild the lily. As time presses on, I follow my characters and their motivations more, allowing them to rip the story from the heart of whatever genre they might have originated in, willing them to carve their own legend into the memory of this world.
I can’t begrudge my creations for their personalities, no matter how many might resemble facets of myself or my loved ones. Some are vastly different from one another, and others could well be siblings within the embryo amid my mind-scape. I do worry that there may not be enough diversity, or that the strongest of my own inner drives will bend the hearts and minds of my many creations to follow similar development arcs throughout their lifetimes. Genres may never encapsulate what it is I write, or perhaps the critics will never consider my work worth the digital space it occupies, but I love it. I wouldn’t release the words into this world unless I was proud of how they were configured and for the stories they told. Learning life lessons may not be easy or even possible from some of my characters, but each one is clawing through existence as they seek to survive, and maybe even thrive.

The blog and newsletter are free, as is referencing the foundation I built over five years of rigorous mental labor after a lifetime of brainstorming. If you like what you see, buying my book and leaving a review would go a long way to supporting me as an artist. Thanks for your time and assistance.
